Today's Pages and THE GIVEAWAY

First, my journal page for today. An enlarged version of a small pretty flower. It was a more brilliant purple but I was using a rather limited palette ...

And last but not least... (drum roll please) My Blog Giveaway!

I would like to award someone the calligraphy set and parchment paper pictured below. I want to thank you for your tremendous friendship and encouragement on this wonderful art journey of mine. Blogging is so much fun - because of all of you - my online friends! It's so nice to know that there's a place where I'm understood - a group of like-minds that can relate to the part of me that no one in my family or in my friendships can relate to. The artist me - the child. I don't know anyone in the "real world" that knows and understands and shares that part of me. I have wonderful supportive friends and family, but they're not artists; they don't have that creative passion and drive, so they can't understand me. Even the artists I know - they don't have a love affair with a sketchbook - their artistic passions, personalities, and pursuits are not like mine - I've always felt very different and sort of alone - it's so nice to have all of you in my life now. A community of friends who understand and share my passion. I am so blessed and so thankful for all of you!

SO... in order to have a chance to win the giveaway, just leave me a comment to this post and with my daughter's help I will put the names of all who comment in a basket and have Grace draw the lucky winner. Leave me a comment! I will announce the winner on Sunday, May 23. That should give everyone a chance to comment. Thank you all again and good luck!

Lovely flower, and I feel the same way you do about the support from the online group. And my favorite "in person" sketchbook art friends are all a result of connecting through the group and blogs.

Lovely flowers! What journal are you using? I really like the size of the two page spread.

I first learned Calligraphy in the Sixth grade, and loved it! Every now and then I buy a cheap calligraphy pen, but they just don't have the same quality outcome.

Anyway, I love your flowers! The colors are beautiful, and they are so true to life. Good for you! Keep it up. I will definitely check back and see what else you have going on.

You can visit my blog if you like, though I have zero of my art posted there. It's mostly just "mind dumping" but it's good for me.

Good luck on your journey.

I do enjoy reading your blog. The flower is lovely. I like that you chose a complimentary color for the background on this sketch. It really makes that flower stand out and shine. Keep blogging please, and I'll keep reading. :-)

What you said about being alone with no one getting it except for the artist's around the net, is so true for me too. You have a way with words!

Thanks for offering a chance to win your calligraphy pen set. I have a book on how to use such things, The Calligraphy Bible but have to admit to not spending much time practicing! Thanks for posting your art online.

I love your flower. I know I've seen these; I just can't think of the name of them. Great pages with it.

Please don't put my name in your hat. I am left handed and already have some calligraphy pens I don't use. I keep meaning to but it's more fun to draw or paint! Actually many years ago I tried to do calligraphy but I don't think I have the patience for it.

It's very hard to find like-minded people. That's why the internet is so great! My son once said he couldn't understand me but he bet my artsy friends could! At least he's learned my art is important to me.

Purple is a beautiful color for a flower, eventhough I find blue extremely fascinating.
I misread the calligraphy set as Pancake ^^ I guess I must be hungry for one.
Thanks for your comments and good luck to everyone!

Great page! I like limited palettes, especially if there's such an amazing purple involved! :) Your journal definitely is an awesome inspiration to me (even though I myself draw in a completely different way). I know what you mean with the community and having people who really understand - deeper than only on an intellectual level! This is so important, not only concerning drawing and journaling and stuff.

Well, more than anyone, I think you should thank yourself - 'cause I (and I am sure many of us) think your lovely pages make us feel happy.. This one is a great painting too! So simple and yet so jolly!

Lovely painting of the flower. And I just have to give a great big "ditto" to everything you've said. I have no artistic family or friends. No one that I feel really understands this drive. They're supportive like you said, but I think my online friends understand more! We are blessed, I think, to have this group! Thank you for the opportunity to win this set, but you can leave me out too. I'm also left-handed and doubt that I would ever use it. I have one around here somewhere! Good luck to everyone though!

Lovely flowers, but I am strangely attracted to the border! I've never thought of doing one like that for my plein air journal... Thanks for the idea!

You know, when I wanted to be surrounded by like-minded artist friends I started a weekly plein air painting group...and you've done the same thing with your blog! As an artist, you can just create what you want...

Thanks for having the drawing--it brings everyone out of the woodwork.

Cheers,

Art Goddess
