Down at the Creek 5/30/06

This sketch was done at a creek down behind my little house. My daughter Grace and my niece Miranda and I went down there to play last night about 7:30 and stayed until almost dark. Wonderful time! I loved the smell of honeysuckles and the sound of the water and the feel of it on my feet. I did this sketch on location with a Faber Castell Pitt Pen and a black Caran D'ache Neocolor II crayon. I added watercolor from my palette when we got back up to the house. Miranda got cold and turned blue, so I figured it was time to head home.

EDM Challenge No. 54

This is a sketch I did in March in response to the EDM challenge # 54 - Draw someone or something you love and journal about it.

The photo was taken of Grace, my daughter, and me at a Mom and Me Weekender with the GA's group at our church. As you can see from the photo I had a hard time capturing Grace's likeness in pen. But for about a 3-minute sketch - it's not half bad. It was fun to do and I will remember that trip to Macado's for a long time to come thanks to the sketch. I used a superfine Sanguine Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen and it's done in my 6 x 9 Aquabee sketchbook.

Journal Pages

I was inspired by the journal pages and collages on the internet and in books I have, so I tried it myself in my sketchbook. I actually was looking through the hymnal and playing the piano. The song "Have Faith in God" really struck me and so I thought of doing a page with it. Then I just kept adding things that went with the colors. I like the way it turned out. I used Liquitex acrylic - I think it's Acra Red and the flower in the bottom pic is from an old notebook cover. The flowers at the top are a failed 4 x 6 watercolor I did - actually it was more "unfinished" than failed. I would love to have your comments on my first ever collage page!

Sketching in the Park 5/24/06

I went to the park at lunch today and did these sketches of children who arrived on a bus ready to play! They had to eat lunch first, so I was able to do a few quick sketches before they ran off to the playground. My car was parked right in front of the picnic shelter. I used a Design Ebony pencil in my 8 1/2 x 11 dummy book from Walden Books.
I like to sketch in pencil, but I always miss the color. I may go back and add watercolor and post again...

EDM Challenge # 64 - My Kitchen Sink

At lunch today I went to the park, sat in my car listening to the In Touch radio broadcast, eating my pepperoni wrap, and drew the tree in front of me. It's bright yellow-green baby leaves against the dark, gray day made a nice picture.

After a very dreary rainy Monday, I came home and instead of washing the dishes, or at least BEFORE washing the dishes, I decided to DRAW my sink while the coffee brewed. (It's also a chilly Monday, perfect for coffee in the evening.) I could have drawn my kitchen sink as I would like it to look, perfectly clean and neat, but let's be real here. This is how my kitchen sink really looks most all the time - and much more interesting than a pristine empty sink, don't you agree...

Kitchen Table

This is a new doodle. Did from memory, but it's a picture of my kitchen table. I so love bright colors - especially the primary colors. I have grown very attached to RED lately.

These are some more "doodles" that I did today. They are 4 x 6 in watercolor and Prismacolor marker. The thinner lines are a Pigma Micron 02 pen. These are THE MOST fun to do! I used Yarka Professional Watercolors and also some colors in American Journey from Cheap Joes. I would love to know what you all think of these...
