A pretty big contrast to the watercolor below, which I just completed.
Which do you like best, and why? Once I hear what you have to say, I'll tell which I like best and why.
I went to the doctor Thursday for my 6-month checkup and I was so excited that I was doing so well. I told her that I hadn't had a migraine in a long time and that I felt the best I've ever felt in my life. Then BOOM the very next morning, I got a migraine; and was in bed all afternoon adn evening yesterday!! The first in many months! What happened!!!?? I do think I've been stressing lately - reading http://www.flylady.net/ and trying to do better, be better, and do more without evening knowing it! I didn't even see how I was stressing and obsessing with flylady's suggestions. I was obsessed with keeping everything clean and organized suddenly; thinking almost nonstop about how to declutter and clean. Enough! I'm not reading her website anymore! It's great for some people, but I declare I'd rather have a little clutter and less obsessing!
Today although, it doesn't look like very much, I did do some decluttering. I threw away a lot, cleaned out drawers, and got rid of the two bins in the corner on top of the table and the narrow tower in the floor. The picture reminds me of the "find what's different" puzzles. LOL But it does make me feel better. I want to focus on watercolor for a while... we'll see how that goes.

I like both, but I believe if I have to choose it would be the pitcher. I would so love to be able to draw and admire anyone who can. It looks like you put a lot more time into it.
I like both of your paintings but for completely different reasons as they are such different statements. The first is totally joyful and the second is elegant, that shadow is lovely.
I get flylady emails and have them filtered into a separate folder to read through whenever I am in the mood. I can't keep up with everything she suggests and keep my sanity. And I am never going to wear shoes in the house! But some of her tips are worthwhile. I do envy your art space, both before and after. Looks like an inspiring place to work!
Oh, I went off on my tirade and forgot to tell you I like both pictures. Sorry, I can't pick "the best one". There isn't a best one. They are two different styles. If you had two pitchers in watercolor, I could pick one of them or if you had two bright marker florals I could pick between them. I like both of these. They really are different aren't they?

Hi Deborah, Is it bad that I think both views of your art space look good to me :-)? As for the pictures, I'm entirely taken with the top one. Lots of energy and interest. Nicely done.
I like the flowers the best - playful, colorful, living, natural! I'm not one for still lifes. As for the pitcher, you have great skill with painting and shading. I tend to see a pitcher which will always be pitcher. And then again, I guess it will hold many different things - delicious thirst quenching water and beverages and maybe those playful, colorful, living flowers - that I love so much.
I love the bright colorful flowers on top. They are so cheery and happy that they just made me smile.
I like them both! One is joyful - and clearly taps into your passions and identification of your desires and the other looks like an art study to practice skills. I think there should be room for both in your journal.
Lovely studio you have Deborah! So bright and cheery. Well, I must say that I like the first journal entry...(I do hate stating what my opinion is, for fear of it having a negative sway on an artist). But it seems to tell me more about YOU. It seems to be more expressive, rather than trying to be "correct". Now there is certainly a place for us to make art to LEARN how to draw/paint what we see in front of us. But I'd rather see the expressiveness of you. Have a lovely Sunday Deborah!
I like the top picture best. It's bright, it's cheery, it reminds me that spring will come. I get winter depression and hate the cold. The blue background for your pitcher reminds me of winter, cold and dark days. See it's all in my head.
I love them both but it looks like you had a lot more fun making the flower page!! I agree with you about FlyLady; I can't keep up with her either. If you are willing to make housekeeping your full-time job, then that's great, but it's way too much pressure to keep up with all of her daily/weekly/hourly reminders PLUS hold down a job, look after a family, and of course make time for your art!! Good for you for recognizing that those emails were what was causing you stress.
Today I love the bright flowers because .. because that's what I love today :-)

I too love the energy and vibrancy of the first journal page, even though the jug is very well done!I also think both views of your craft area to be quite acceptable! If my table gets so bad that I only have a 6 inch square space to work, it's time to clean it up. Otherwise I can't work in an area that I feel I have to "keep up".
I have been "flirting" with flylady for years. Even before the internet. I have learned to declutter. I don't wear shoes in the house nor am I dressed to the "T" before breakfast. I have the flylady e-mails come to my inbox everyday, and diligently "delete" them without reading them. OK, once in a while, maybe once a month I will read one, and maybe even do one. But my house (and sanity) are fine, Its just that little reminder everyday not to let my house get totally away from me. It also helps to have someone come in once a week and do all the things I hate to do!!
What is fascinating to me is that they both incorporate the same palette of colors, to different saturation and tone, pure or blended, but I can see pretty much all of them in both of these artworks. I'm liking the pure jewel celebratory tones of the first a bit better - as Gypsy says...today.
I like both but probably the flowers better because I like bright cheery colors. I like your before and after pictures, too. I was nice how you had the sun shining in on the "after" one. Flylady---been there, done that and I agree with you. A little clutter isn't a bad thing.
I love the first one, for its bold colors and whimsy. I think the second is great for the experience/lessons that it gives you. Nice work space!
Well, I gave up reading Flylady a while ago. Some of the ideas were good but I can mostly find something better to do than housework! I don't know what my 'last words' will be, but they won't be 'I wish I had done more housework'!
I like both your pictures, but in different ways. The flowers are bright and cheerful, lovely to look at on a dark winters day. The jug is serene - contemplative.
I like the bottom picture best for two reasons. First, I love white pitchers. Second, I like more subdued colors. Just my personal taste.
As for flylady...I'm with you. I signed up for her emails for about one day, and that was enough for me. I'm not about to scrub my sink out that often!

Your studio looks great! And I hear you on Fly Lady. Too many e-mails, too stressful, I had to stop. Although now we've got a role reversal in our family and my hubby is a SAHD, he does all the cooking, cleaning and laundry. Even though I'm the one working, life is good!
I like both so it's really hard to pick. I love the shadow of the pitcher and the blue background but I just LOVE color so I'm really drawn to the first one. And as far as flylady goes, I do what Ann said and filter the emails into a separate folder and skim them when I feel the need to (and only get the digest mode). I'm sort of on autopilot now but every once in a while I need to do some decluttering again.
