Creative Chronicles # 2

Creative chaos!! Love it.

I started out just sketching the bottle of flowers on the right in colored pencil, then added watercolor.  I didn't like the background, so I gessoed over it, let it dry and went in with more watercolor washes. Then I added watercolor, watercolor pencils, and more colored pencils, and I think some white gouache. Oh, before I did all that, I glued the page to the page behind it for more support.

I like the effect of the gesso, the way it makes the background look sort of mottled...an interesting texture.

And lastly I leave you with a beautiful closeup of my supplies.

Practically Perfect Labor Day Weekend

Hillsville, VA hosts the southeast's largest flea market each Labor Day Weekend. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it, having not been in a few years. The weather was perfect - clear blue skies, no humidity, highs in the 70's. I went Saturday and Sunday with my daughter, who happens to be my favorite person to hang out with.

Found this happy, very"me" pitcher at the Labor Day flea market and picked these zinnias from my garden to complement it.

One of my goals today was to complete the covers of my handmade journal. I collaged a copy of one of my paintings along with painted fabric and paper from prior play sessions and the definition of the word "live" (zoom in for details).

And I purchased the two stools at the flea market for $5 each, which prompted me to rearrange my corner studio once again. You can see other pictures of its continuing metamorphosis in prior posts.
